Wood Speargun Finishing
Remove all hardware.
Shape sand with 60 or 80 grit using random orbital (RO) sander. Be sure to remove all machine marks.
Finish sand with 100, 120, or 150 grit with RO sander as needed.
Finish sand with 220 grit with RO sander.
Hand sand with 220 grit to remove any lines from RO sander.
Soak with epoxy sealant and let dry for 12 hours.
Soak with second coat of epoxy sealant and let dry for 24 hours.
Hand sand with 320 wet & dry on a sanding block until finish is glassy smooth.
Re-soak with thin coat of epoxy sealant (avoiding runs) and let dry for 12 hours.
Buff lightly with #000 synthetic steel wool to remove any minor imperfections.
Coat with Tung Oil or PolyUrathane and let dry for 24 hours per coat.
Buff lightly with synthetic steel wool to give a satin finish.
If unsatisfied with the results, sand off all finish and start over.
