Mark a 3 inch segment at rear of gun where mechanism is to be installed prior
to cutting track
Cut track relief to the end of this 3 in segement
zero out the x axis of the DRO at the end of the 3 in segment
Change to .25 in long fluted end mill and cut a slot in multiple passes 1.5 in
deep for the entire 3 in segement (0 to -2.75 on DRO x-axis)
Move to -.85 in x axis dimension, zero x-axis on DRO, and cut in multiple
passes to the end of the 3 in segment (x = .85) to the depth of the cutter
or just above the base of vice - whichever comes first !!! DONT CUT INTO
MY VICE!!! This will form the 'trigger thru slot'
Change to the ball track cutter and cut the track extend the cut .750 inches into this 3 in mechanism area.
Setup Mill with Drill chuck
Move gun
far enuf outta the vice to drill with 1/4 in drill thru the two ends
of the 'trigger thru slot'
Remove gun to measure for Mechanism pins
Measure drop from gun blank top to the bottom of the track for the shaft located just in front
of mechanism pocket e. g., .300
Measure the 'tang slot depth' on your shaft - e. g., .135 for Riffe or Alexander
shafts is typical
Compute drop minus 'tang slot depth' plus .400 - e. g., .300 - .135 + .400
which would be .565
Gun on Mill - right side up - top toward front
Gun should
be oriented so that blank-rear is to the right of the vice with
blank-top
toward the machinist and the rest of the gun blank is to the left of
the vice
Put 3/16
pin in mill chuck
Align y-axis
so that 0.0 is centered on top edge of gun
Align x-axis
so that 0.0 will allow the sear to drop into the slot
Move
to measurement computed above on the y-axis e. g., .565 and at that point rezero
the y -axis. Then with the 3/16 in Drill make the sear axis pin hole.
Move to
x = -1.7826 and y = .2348 and drill the trigger axis pin hole.
Change setup to long fluted .125 cutter - line release
with the long fluted .125 milling cutter move to x = -.375 ; y = -.250
Zero X and
Y and then cut .80 in the x direction
through mechanism pocket for the line release
Widen +-
.002 for clearance
Drill chuck back in Mill for Line Release Screw:
Orient gun top up - line release slot toward machinist
zero Y axis on center of the track
zero X axis on center of the sear axis pin hole
Move to x = .775 ; y = .49 and Drill hole
for 6/32 screw for line release
Place tap in mill chuck and start into hole
Finish tap by hand with hand chuck
Long fluted .250 cutter in Mill to finish trigger slot
Flip gun blank and finish opening the 'trigger thru slot'
at rear of mechanism with the .25 in long fluted milling cutter
